The guy from the Lambchop record

wwhite.jpg

Did you ever own a record just for the artwork? I haven't really but I've wanted to. One semi-recently was the Damon & Naomi with Ghost LP which had really great photos by Naomi but is insufferably boring. The other was the Lambchop record Nixon which couldn't less be "my bag" but had artwork by Wayne White who buys thrift paintings & paints giant words on them. via Kottke & waxy.org.

I'm crazy about that Wayne White too. Lambchop's Nixon is not a bad record, though they're a hard group to champion. I dragged a bunch of my friends to see them at a free concert at Prospect Park one time and they were super crummy and then did an encore of The Buzzcock's 'Why Can't I Touch It' that was very groan-worthy. The only highlight was the retarded guy sitting in the row in front of us who was rocking out like he was at Ozfest. He had such a better time than everyone else.
I wanna buy stuff EVERY DAY because of the packaging. I know it's wrong, but...

Any time someone is 100% into something, regardless of my opinion & as long as it doesn't hinder my enjoyment, it's a good thing. Buying things for the packaging is fine but there's something about owning a record but not listnening to it...I'm not really sure why it has such a stigma to me. I guess I own at least one LP that I bought for the cover & don't listen to. But there's always the chance I might. I feel like I gave that Damon & Naomi LP enough chances already. I'd be lving a lie. By the way, I looked at some more of Naomi's photos on their site & it was a bit of a letdown.

Yeah, Naomi's a bit of a monster. And, am I crazy, or does Dean Wareham sound just like the guy from The Pet Shop Boys?
Just to set the record straight, I'm too poor to buy records in general, but when I lived in LA, I used to buy lots of jazz and blues records (very, very cheap there and in great abundance for some reason) based largely on the cover art, which was quite amazing and ahead of it's time.
