Lost in Translation

The digital age brings you some of those new drawings you've been hearing so much about. Hours old & already on the internet. That is progress, my friends.

Both roughly 40"x50". They look better in person, I swear.

Zhang Huan getting busy on some perf. art on the lawn at the MFA. Naked, pole-climbing, dogs, smoke machines, Buddhist chants & free books. I guess you had to be there.

(check out that dog's robot laser eyes! danger! danger!)

The Long Goodbye

screen2046.jpg

My friend Kyle posed the question, "Is it a good film?" It being 2046. The answer, after seeing again, this time in the theater: I don't know but I like it.

Me & the Sex Pistols

eggleston_post.jpg

Short column detailing Wm. Eggleston's recent visit to the big city to attend the premiere of "William Eggleston in the Real World" in this weeks NYer. I like the bit where he mentions an upcoming trip to Thailand.

"I'm headed to Bangkok," he said. "My son Winston & I, Nan Goldin, and Juergen Teller. It's gonna be a hell of a crew."

Aside from the questionable extra-marital dealings that my fragile psyche would find too difficult to juggle, he is one of my heroes.

Minister of Paradiddles

Thank you to those who came. No thanks to those who didn't, though you probably didn't come because I didn't tell you. We have another show with the mighty 400 Blows at that Allston dive O'Briens in October. The above is my current "drumkit" (loosely termed); rack tom, floor tom & the tambourine I play with my left foot (matchbook that stands in for missing hardware not pictured).

Peter Stormare = Good Satan

Constantine is a way better movie than people said it was. Also, why does Keanu run so funny?

Now I have a stage name.

Early warning for the 3 people I know in Boston: I'm playing drums in my neighborfriends band Nurse & Soldier (Oneida/Karaoke Hustlers) on Wednesday the 21st of Sept. at Zuzu's as a part of N.E.S.T. (The NorthEast Sticks Together). Also guesting is The Darkness of Athens GA's Je Suis France & the internet's Mesmerization Eclipse. I haven't played live in over 5 years. It is bound to be a not unamazing experience.

And my stage name is The Fieldrecordist. Yeah.

Federer (stupid headband, huge forehand) beats Agassi (mid-30s inspiration, guts) in 4 sets. Yawn-ish.

A gay man dressed in a bunny suit.

Xiu Xiu has got to be in the running for Band Champion of the Year. Just two people on stage making a hell of a lot of amazingness while handling multiple, disparate instruments including a sampler, harmonium, mandolin, a snare drum, multiple cymbals & some sort of gamelan apparatus (gongs or bells, I couldn't see), all over some prerecorded beats. If you hate some-might-find-it-annoying singing, you'd hate it but these things happen.

You'd have hated Frog Eyes, too. They were good & not just because they have one guy who looks like David Cross plus two guys who look like people I know (Christian Brandt & Jeremy Lemos). Please keep in mind that I badly need new glasses. I have no visual referent for the drummer. They are from Canada.

"...it's all Plato in the fricking cave out here"

Julianne Shepard manages to use the phrase "...THE POST-MILLENIUM AGE IS A DICK..." (her caps) in her current Pitchfork column that covers the oil crisis, protest reggaeton from Puerto Rico, some neo-disco/techno & D. Banhart's escapist folk. I want to write half this good.

I'm a master. It's awesome.

From an interview w/Sufjan Stevens in the new Tokion:

in ref. to the 50 albums for 50 states thing...

T - Do you think you'll finish all 50?
SS - No, I won't.

in ref. to grad school...

T- ...you studied creative writing at the New School...
SS - Yeah, it's a two year Master's program & I finished a couple of years ago. So I have a degree. I'm a Master. It's awesome.

We've learned two things. One: It's okay to make big promises & not keep them as long as you make a couple of amazing things and two: Being a Master is awesome.

First person account of being a Master of Fine Art in tminus 9 months.

Still hanging around this place, lurking.

Whew! Instead of going on vacation I went home to Chicago for a hot minute. Final Answer: Yes, Chicago is better than Boston. Also, bingo is more fun when hosted by Stephen Sowley & that other Stephen. Also also, it's easier to buy records when you get a discount. And also, yes, I played golf with my dad (and won).

Having a party & want me to come & play records at it? Email me. Fun times practically guaranteed.
